South Africa’s veteran batter David Miller rubbished rumours that he had retired from T20 Internationals after the World Cup final heartbreak against India in Barbados. Miller took to social media on Tuesday, July 2 to confirm he would be available to play for the Proteas in the shortest format of the game.

David Miller acknowledged that several news reports claimed that the 35-year-old announced his retirement from T20Is after the T20 World Cup final on Saturday. Miller, 35, was heartbroken and gutted after the big final as he was not able to finish the game in South Africa’s chase of 177.

David Miller was dismissed in the first delivery of the final over when South Africa needed 16 runs from 6 deliveries. Having earned a reputation for closing crunch games and remaining calm under pressure, the Proteas backed on Miller to take them home. However, Miller was dismissed when he tried to hit the first delivery of the final over bowled by Hardik Pandya for a six. Miller hit a full-toss towards the long-off boundary, but Suryakumar Yadav stopped the ball from going over the boundary with a heart-stopping catch.

The wicket of David Miller ended South Africa’s hopes as Hardik choked the Proteas, conceding just 8 runs in the final over. Miller hit 21 off 17, but it was not enough for South Africa to avoid a heartbreak in their first-ever final in a men’s World Cup.
