NEW DELHI: At least 13 people, including five children, were killed and 15 critically injured after a tractor-trolley bringing a marriage procession from bordering Rajasthan overturned in Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh district late Sunday night.
The accident occurred around 9 pm near Piplodi in Rajgarh district, which is 150 km north of Bhopal and barely 2 km from Rajasthan.
The wedding guests were heading from Rajasthan’s Motipura village to Piplodi, with around 30 of them packed into the tractor-trolley, while some were on motorcycles.Near Piplodi, the tractor went out of control and overturned, crushing several people.
Other wedding guests and locals began rescuing the trapped before local police joined the effort.
“So far, we have information regarding 13 deaths. Around 15 people were injured. Two of the more seriously injured ones have been referred to Bhopal for treatment. The rest are at Rajgarh district hospital,” collector Harsh Dixit told TOI.
The injured are not in a condition to speak, said Dixit. All the victims are from Rajasthan, he said.
Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav has expressed his deepest condolences and said that the state government is in constant touch with the Rajasthan government.
“The news of the untimely death of 13 people from the Jhalawar district of Rajasthan due to the overturning of a tractor-trolley on Piplodi Road in Rajgarh district is extremely sad. Leader Narayan Singh Panwar along with the collector and SP Rajgarh are present on the spot. We are in touch with the Rajasthan government and Rajasthan police have also reached the spot,” said CM Mohan Yadav on X.
“The treatment of the injured is going on in the district hospital, Rajgarh and some seriously injured patients have been referred to Bhopal…My deepest condolences are with the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” he added.
President Droupadi Murmu also expressed her condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the accident.
“The news of the death of many people in a road accident in Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh is very sad. I express my heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” wrote President Droupadi Murmu on X.
