There’s a whole new meaning behind “Taco Tuesday” on National Taco Day, which lands on — you guessed It — Tuesday, Oct. 1.
Taco Bell moved the national day to the first Tuesday of October after the chain started an online petition earlier this year to cancel the trademarked phrase “Taco Tuesday,” which had belonged to Wyoming-based Taco John’s for more than three decades.
The former date was Oct. 4 of every year.
The taco, which originated in Mexico, has grown into endless variations. Its savory ingredients can be placed in a crunchy or soft shell.

Taco Bell free taco? Restaurant is giving away $1 tacos
Taco Bell is offering $1 tacos for 10 hours for rewards members – and every hour a different choice of taco will be featured.
The $1 tacos will continue every Tuesday in October in celebration of National Taco Day.
Here’s the lineup:
- 10 a.m. – Crunchy Taco (10,000 available for redemption)
- 11 a.m. – Double Stacked Taco (10,000 available for redemption)
- Noon – Chalupa Supreme (10,000 available for redemption)
- 1 p.m. – Nacho Cheese Doritos® Locos Tacos (10,000 available for redemption)

Chuy’s $1 taco add-on
Chuy’s is celebrating National Taco Day twice this year on both Tuesday, Oct. 1 and Friday, Oct. 4.
Add a ground beef taco — crispy or soft — to any dine-in entree purchase for $1.
Taco Cabana taco day offers discounted food
Taco Cabana is offering the below deals on National Taco Day with no limit, and no coupon needed:
- $1 Bean and Cheese tacos
- $2 Ground Beef tacos
- $2 Shredded Chicken Tacos
El Pollo Loco chicken taco deal
At El Pollo Loco, Loco Rewards members can get any three fire-grilled chicken tacos for $5 in restaurants, on the app or website starting National Taco Day, Tuesday, Oct. 1, through Friday, Oct. 4.
Long John Silver’s fish tacos
For a limited time, get two fish tacos for $5 available at participating restaurants.
