A graduate of Yale University’s drama school, Obi Ndefo’s acting resume included TV appearances in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager, sitcoms The Wayans Bros., The Jamie Foxx Show, 3rd Rock From the Sun, and Half & Half, and dramas Angel, The District, NYPD Blue and The West Wing. His final appearance, according to IMBD, was in an episode of NCIS: Los Angeles in 2021.
Ndefo was also empoyed as a yoga teacher.
“Heartbroken at the loss of my younger brother and knowing he’s finally at peace,” wrote his sister Nkem on Facebook.
In 2019, Ndefo was struck by a drunk hit-and-run driver in the parking lot of a grocery store in Los Angeles and both of his legs had to be amputated above the knee. Despite the accident, Ndefo kept a positive attitude, continuing to teach yoga classes.
“This is just so horrendous what happened to me, why would I compound this by feeling bad about it?” he told the Los Angeles Times in December 2019. “I didn’t even have to choose positivity.”
“These words don’t come easy 💔,” wrote actress Mary-Margaret Humes on Instagram, who played Gale Leery on Dawson’s Creek. “It’s hard for me to conceive that you have left us, my dear friend. You always were and always will be a bright shining light. What an example of pure unfiltered love and tenacity you set as you faced life’s challenges of recent.”
“I will cherish all of our messages of love and support to each other over the past few years,” the actress added. “Rest in peace sweet warrior.”
