MUMBAI: A 26-year-old driver, Suraj Sav, was arrested by the Andheri police after he crashed into a parked vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred just after midnight and was recorded on video by the owner of the damaged car. Sav, a resident of Virar, was charged with drunk driving and other offenses under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
According to a police officer from the Andheri police station, Sav was driving on Andheri Ghatkopar Link Road after a party when the accident happened at 12:15 am on Tuesday. Witnesses reported that Sav was driving with half his body outside the vehicle, with his hand on the steering wheel, which led to the crash. He was apprehended at the scene by the night patrolling team.
Harmeetsingh Madan, whose sedan was damaged when Sav hit it from behind, provided video evidence of the incident to police constable Tanaji Koduskar (56).
“In the footage, the accused can be seen performing a dangerous stunt, leaning out of the vehicle while attempting to steer. It was during this reckless act that he lost control and slammed into the stationary car,” Koduskar stated in the FIR.
