Take a walk down North Dutcher Street in Irvington and you’ll feel as though you’ve stumbled into a virtual Halloween town.
Every house on this block just off Main Street is decorated from top to bottom. The folks go all out here with good reason. The neighborhood is home to “Porchella”.
A community Halloween music festival that’s now in its 12th year. Neighbors Douglas McClure and John Malone had an idea. Dress up as the rock band the Ramone’s and play a few songs on the front porch as trick or treaters come by. And “Porchella” was born.
Now they’re up to 10 local bands playing sets throughout the village all on front porches, some driveways and even garages. As word spread the crowds grew. North Dutcher Street gets more than 1,000 trick-or-treaters and the block is packed from end to end once the bands hit the porch.
The event kicks off at 5 p.m. All are welcome!
