BJP to Protest Against Waqf Land Transfer Fraud on November 4 | Bengaluru News

Karnataka BJP president BY Vijayendra

BENGALURU: Opposition BJP on Thursday announced plans for a statewide protest from Nov 4, demanding the resignation of minority welfare and waqf minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan over allegations of farmers’ land being transferred to the waqf board.
Accusing the govt of altering land records to classify farmland as waqf property, state BJP president BY Vijayendra declared that the party would “expose” the Congress administration.
BJP’s call for protest stems from claims that authorities are being pressured to amend land records across districts, allegedly under govt influence. “This is a clear act of the Congress forcing authorities to change the land records of farmers, marking them as waqf property,” Vijayendra alleged.
Union minister HD Kumaraswamy accused the Congress govt of diverting attention from alleged scandals involving the Mysore Urban Development Authority (Muda) and the Valmiki ST Development Corporation. “They are bringing out controversial issues one after the other in a bid to cover up the corruption cases,” Kumaraswamy said, adding, “The waqf issue was not created by the opposition. It is the Congress govt which has started it.”
Haveri BJP MP and former CM Basavaraj Bommai also weighed in, criticising the perceived misuse of the waqf law, which he claims is being employed to reclassify farmers’ agricultural land as Waqf property.
Bommai demanded that the govt “withdraw notices issued to farmers, conduct a thorough verification of records across the state and ensure justice for farmers.
Meanwhile, CM Siddaramaiah said BJP is “raking up the waqf issue” with an eye on the upcoming state by-elections and the assembly polls in Maharashtra. Assuring farmers that none would be displaced, he added any notices issued under his administration would be rescinded.
“BJP is doing politics,” Siddaramaiah remarked. “During BJP’s tenure, over 200 notices were issued. What do they have to say about that? This kind of dual politics is unwarranted,” he said. “If any notices are indeed served by our govt, they will be withdrawn, and no farmers will be evicted.”
