For the second time in her career, and the first time in the 2024-25 season, Hillsdale College women’s tennis standout Ane Dannhauser has brought home G-MAC Athlete of the Week honors.
Dannhauser was recognized by the conference on Monday for her strong singles play at the Chargers Fall Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, as the sophomore went a perfect 3-0 in singles play against the top players from Hillsdale’s three opponents to run the table on the weekend.
The sophomore and South African native downed Northwestern Ohio’s Munisa Ashurbekova 8-6 and Lawrence Tech’s Paola Herrera 8-1 in two Saturday matches before dominating a regional opponent, Saginaw Valley State’s Lydia Liong, 6-0, 6-1 on Sunday. Along with her three singles wins, Dannhauser also went 1-2 with freshman partner Briana Rees in double action, picking up a 6-2 win over an opposing team from Lawrence Tech.
It’s been a strong start to the 2024-25 season for Dannhauser, a first-team All-G-MAC player and the G-MAC Freshman of the Year in 2023-24. Dannhauser ends the fall with a 7-2 singles record, with one of her two losses coming to the top-seeded player in the region at the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament in a tight three-set match.
Dannhauser is set up well for the spring, as Hillsdale will pick back up on Feb. 1 at home against visiting Michigan Tech.
