Vanderbilt football pass rusher Khordae Sydnor was helped off the field after a play with 1:13 left in the second quarter of Saturday’s game against Virginia Tech.
Sydnor returned to the game in the third quarter.
The play that caused the injury was originally a 17-yard run for the Hokies, but it was called back due to a holding penalty. The Commodores led, 17-0, at the time.
Sydnor transferred to Vanderbilt from Purdue in the offseason and was the starter at defensive end. His backup is redshirt sophomore Linus Zunk. Sydnor had not recorded any stats in the contest prior to the injury.
Vanderbilt scored two touchdowns and a field goal in the first half thanks to the trio of Diego Pavia, Quincy Skinner and Sedrick Alexander.
The Commodores have been remarkably healthy in the preseason, with most of the injuries coming to players who were already not going to be atop the depth chart.
The drive for the Hokies eventually resulted in a field goal, cutting Vanderbilt’s lead to 17-3 with less than a minute to go until halftime.
