SILCHAR: A man chopped off his wife’s hands in Jamalpur village under Dholai police station of Assam’s Cachar district over suspicion of an extra-marital affair.
The incident took place on Thursday.
Rafique Uddin and his wife, Ruby, had been experiencing marital problems due to Rafique’s frequent work-related trips to Bengaluru and his constant accusations of Ruby’s alleged extra-marital affair.
Sources said the situation had escalated to the point where Ruby, a mother of three, had temporarily moved back to her parents’ house in Rajnagar village to escape the constant allegations. After a mutual resolution, Ruby returned to her husband’s house in Jamalpur. However, Rafique’s suspicion persisted even after his return from Bengaluru about one-and-a-half months ago, they added. On the day of the incident, the couple engaged in a heated altercation, presumably over Rafique’s ongoing doubts about Ruby’s faithfulness. In a fit of rage, Rafique grabbed a sharp weapon and viciously attacked his wife, chopping off her hands before fleeing the scene.
Alerted by the screams of Ruby and her children, neighbours rushed to the house and discovered her in a critical condition. They promptly informed Ruby’s family members, who arrived at the scene and rushed her to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. However, due to the severity of her injuries, she was referred to a hospital in Guwahati for further treatment.
