The Central Bureau of Investigation, probing the alleged malpractices in conducting the NEET-UG exam at a private school in Godhra of Gujarat on Sunday arrested its owner. With the arrest of Dixit Patel, owner of Jay Jalaram School situated near Godhra in Panchmahal district, the number of persons arrested so far- five of them were held by Gujarat Police- has gone up to six.

Jay Jalaram School was one of the designated centres where the NEET-UG exam was held on May 5. Patel was arrested in the early hours of Sunday from his residence in Panchmahal district, said public prosecutor Rakesh Thakor.

“As the case has been handed over to the CBI by the Gujarat government, a CBI team will produce him (Dixit Patel) before a designated court in Ahmedabad to acquire his remand,” said Thakor.

The NEET UG Re-exam results have not been released yet.

After the re-exam results, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is likely to begin the counselling process.

NEET 2024 News Live: During the NEET UG exam held earlier this year, 1563 candidates from seven venues faced time loss, for which they were awarded compensatory or grace marks. Later, the centre decided to cancel the grace marks and announced that a re-exam would be held for these candidates on June 23. A journalist named Jamaluddin, who works for a Hindi newspaper, has been held by the CBI for allegedly assisting the principal and vice principal of Oasis School, who were arrested on Friday.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in his latest remark said assured students and citizens that strict action was underway.

The NTA on Friday announced fresh dates for UGC-NET which was cancelled ad postponed.

The UGC NET will now be held from August 21 to September 4.

As per officials, Ehsanul Haque, the principal, was designated as the NTA’s observer and the centre coordinator for Oasis School.

The Principal and other staff members of Oasis were questioned for hours with regard to the alleged irregularities in the conduct of NEET UG 2024, on Wednesday.

The Oasis School Hazaribagh principal-cum-district coordinator of NEET exams Ehsanul Haq, vice principal Imtiyaz Alam, among others were arrested by CBI on Friday on allegations of tampering of questions papers.

The CBI operation began in the morning at the premises of suspects spread across four districts — Anand, Kheda, Ahmedabad and Godhra.

The CBI conducted searches at seven location in Gujarat in the NEET-UG paper leak case.
