macOS got a few noteworthy upgrades at Apple’s WWDC 2024 in Cupertino. The latest version is macOS Sequoia.
One of the biggest is iPhone mirroring. Now, through macOS’ Continuity feature, you can mirror your iPhone’s screen and control it right from your Mac laptop or desktop. Notifications on Mac bring up iPhone mirror mode, and iPhone audio comes through the Mac as well — but the paired iPhone stays locked.
Elsewhere, macOS Sequoia introduces automatic window tiling and a presenter preview mode for videoconferencing with a built-in background replacement. Upgrades to Keychain, including a new cross-platform Passwords app, help you manage credentials.
Safari now has highlights, which taps AI to automatically detect interesting things and show you with a click. Safari’s Reader mode is getting AI-powered summaries of pages and tables of content. And the new Viewer option brings videos front and center with system video controls.
On the gaming front, Apple announced Game Porting Toolkit 2, the newest version of its game porting toolkit. It features improved Windows compatibility and enhanced debugging tools.
The macOS Sequoia beta will be available this month, with final releases to come this fall.
Apple also announced updates to the Photos app in iOS 18 as well as an upgraded Calculator app for the iPad.
