Wedding week is a whirlwind of events and swaps. To keep every piece of jewellery flawless, you need more than simple box storage. Lucknow-based jewellery designer Mrinalini Chandra says, “Between the haldi, sangeet, pheras and reception, a bride’s jewellery goes through almost as much chaos as she does. From sweat and makeup to rapid outfit changes, your pieces deserve a little TLC to keep them sparkling through every event — and long after.”Store smart between eventsGold, diamond, and polki pieces each require different kinds of care. “Never toss everything into one pouch in a hurry,” she warns. “For gold jewellery, store each piece separately in soft pouches to avoid scratching. Keep choker back-threads and haathphool chains untangled: loop them, place in zip pouches, and label.” She adds, “Diamonds scratch easily. Never store them with gold or polki. Wrap in microfibre cloth to prevent dullness from dust, hairspray or perfume. Polki is the most delicate — since they’re set in lacquer and foiling, they must be kept completely moisture-free in airtight boxes with silica gel, and never stored in bathrooms or humid areas.”Do not forget post-wedding jewellery careWhen the celebrations wrap up, deeply cleanse each piece before securing it in long-term storage. “After each event, wipe your jewellery with a soft cloth to remove sweat, makeup, and perfume, and save any washing or deep cleaning for a professional after the wedding week,” says Mrinalini.Wedding week jewellery kit essentials (Inputs by Mrinalini Chandra)– Microfibre cloth: For instant cleaning of gold, diamonds, and especially polki (dry only)– Extra earring backs: Carry both metal and silicone ones.
