PUDUCHERRY: Three young athletes from Auroville — Amarsakthi Sivaraj, Harsha Vardhan and Gothainayagai Bala Murugan — were a part of the Indian team, which bagged the WFDF World Beach Ultimate Championships 2025 (internationally recognised as the World Flying Disc Federation – World Cup 2025).India achieved a thrilling and hard-fought 11–10 victory over Germany and clinched the championship, which was held in the scenic coastal city of Portimão, Portugal. This year’s championship highlights the rapid global growth of the sport, with 10 divisions, 38 countries, 136 teams, 2,277 athletes, 792 matches, and 3,308+ recorded points, showcasing an exceptional international competitive standard.The three athletes from Auroville played an important role in this memorable victory. Their achievement reflects Auroville’s sports culture built on discipline, teamwork, resilience, values-based learning and community-driven encouragement, said a release.Auroville Foundation secretary and Gujarat additional chief secretary Jayanthi S Ravi has been actively encouraging and prioritizing sports development for youth in Auroville. The foundation has been making efforts to collaborate with sports experts from Auroville and Sri Aurobindo Ashram to strengthen long-term programmes, enabling Auroville youth to excel nationally and internationally in sports events.The foundation focuses on holistic education, body-mind balance, value-based excellence and creating world-class training pathways so that young athletes from Auroville can shine for India’s future in global sports.
