Vietnam is simplifying travel for international visitors by expanding its electronic visa (e-visa) system. The government has approved 41 new checkpoints, allowing foreign travellers to use e-visas for entry and exit. This brings the total number of e-visa points to 83, marking a significant step in streamlining immigration procedures.According to VietnamPlus reports, the new checkpoints include four international airports, 11 land border gates, and 26 seaports. Long Thanh and Gia Binh International Airports will adopt the system once operational, while Vinh and Chu Lai airports are already accepting e-visa holders. This expansion not only makes travel more convenient but also promotes tourism, enhances regional connectivity, and supports Vietnam’s broader economic growth and international appeal.
Vietnam doubles e-visa entry points to enhance travel flexibility
The new e-visa checkpoints, introduced under Resolution 389/NQ-CP, include four international airports, 11 land border gates, and 26 seaports. This expansion builds on the previous framework set by Resolution 127/NQ-CP in August 2023, which authorised 42 entry points, including 13 airports, 16 land borders, and 13 seaports. By nearly doubling the number of entry points, the Vietnamese Government is enabling more convenient and flexible travel for international visitors.Among the newly added airports, Long Thanh International Airport and Gia Binh International Airport will adopt the e-visa system once they become operational. Meanwhile, Vinh International Airport and Chu Lai International Airport are already accepting travellers with e-visas. This expansion allows visitors to fly directly to regions outside of traditional tourist hubs like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang. The inclusion of these airports makes travel more accessible and encourages exploration of Vietnam’s diverse cultural, historical, and natural attractions. The addition of 11 land border gates enables foreign visitors to enter Vietnam overland from neighbouring countries. This is particularly beneficial for travellers seeking flexible travel options or regional road trips. The expansion supports cross-border tourism, facilitates business travel, and strengthens Vietnam’s connectivity with Southeast Asian neighbours.

Vietnam enhances coastal tourism through new seaport checkpoints
Another significant aspect of the expansion is the inclusion of 26 seaports. Visitors arriving by cruise ships or ferries can now use the e-visa system, which opens new possibilities for maritime tourism. Coastal regions that previously saw limited international arrivals are expected to experience growth in visitor numbers, boosting local economies and diversifying tourism beyond traditional urban centres. The overall impact of this e-visa expansion is the creation of a more streamlined, visitor-friendly process for entering Vietnam. By offering multiple entry options through air, land, and sea, the government ensures that travellers can avoid overcrowded entry points and plan itineraries that explore both major cities and lesser-known destinations. This initiative supports longer stays, increases tourist spending, and strengthens Vietnam’s reputation as a welcoming and accessible travel destination.
