India’s Phoenix Kothari Footwear Limited and Taiwan’s ShoeTown Group’s joint venture JR One Footwear Private Limited plans to launch two new manufacturing facilities and leather component clusters in the state of Tamil Nadu.
“We are expanding by entering two more districts for setting up manufacturing facilities,” said Phoenix Kothari Footwear Limited’s chairman Rafiq Ahmed, Indian Retailer Bureau reported. “We are bringing two more international footwear brands. We will announce the name of two districts soon.”
Component clusters produce parts of shoes and they are usually imported from either Vietnam or China thus it is important to increase production in India to reduce the need for importing them, according to the business. Kothari Group has an exclusive partnership with ShoeTown Group’s chairman Ron Chang to product footwear in India with the goal of mutual growth.
“I am happy to work together with our brother Rafeeq in Tamil Nadu,” said Chang. “I think it is a growth partnership. We have created a huge value for our future business growth in Tamil Nadu.”
The business has also committed to investing Rs 5,000 crore to establish a facility in Perambalur to manufacture ‘Crocs’ brand footwear. JR One Footwear has previously announced that the development will create approximately 1,700 direct and indirect employment opportunities in the area.
