University Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has won the ‘Green Gown Award 2024’ under the ‘Benefitting Society’ category for its School of Sustainable Futures’ ‘Live-in-Labs’ initiative and its promotion of sustainability through its operations.
“We are immensely proud to receive the International Green Gown Award 2024 in the Benefitting Society Category, along with recognition in three additional categories,” said the Amrita School for Sustainable Futures’ provost and dean Maneesha V Ramesh in a press release. “The Live-in-Labs initiative exemplifies our dedication to sustainable development through experiential learning. By empowering students to engage with rural communities, we address pressing challenges and cultivate a commitment to building resilient communities. This recognition reinforces our belief in education’s transformative power to create lasting societal change.”
This year, the Green Gown Awards featured 95 finalists from 28 countries across eight categories. Originally launched in 2013, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s Live-in-Labs initiative is designed to immerse students in rural life and give them the tools to tackle real-world problems.
“It’s not just about finding solutions but truly understanding the community’s perspective,” said judges about the Live-in-Labs initiative. “This is a win-win for both students and the communities they serve.” Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was also commended at the awards for its sustainable development offerings and its nature-focused initiatives.
