Multi-brand sneaker retailer Foot Locker will open its first brick-and-mortar outlet in India in New Delhi’s Nexus Select CityWalk mall in Saket as part of its entry into the Indian market which will also see it expand in the country online.
The upcoming Foot Locker store is currently being fitted out and its design and functionality will be based on the business’ ‘store of the future’ concept, India Retailing reported. Signages from Foot Locker are currently displayed in a store undergoing work on the first floor of the large scale mall, situated by an operational Skechers footwear store.
For its India market entry, Foot Locker has joined forces with Indian footwear business Metro Brands Limited. The multi-decade agreement states that Metro Brands Limited will run Foot Locker’s brick-and-mortar stores in India and the business plans to launch between two and six Foot Locker stores this year.
Foot Locker’s stores are generally sized between 3,000 and 5,000 square feet and retail a mix of footwear, with a focus on sneakers, accessories, and sports apparel for men, women, and children. In some of its global stores, the business retails brands including Nike, Converse, Asics, Adidas, Crocs, Champion, and New Era, according to its Facebook page.
Foot Locker is based in New York, US, retails in more than 40 countries across the globe, and counts over 2,500 stores, according to its UK website. The multinational sportswear and sports footwear business was founded in 1974 in California, US and its previous incarnations include Woolworth Co and Venator Group.
