Designer Salita Nanda took colourful inspiration from Italy for ready-to-wear collection ‘Cielo’ which presented fusion style men’s and women’s apparel on the runway at Lakmē Fashion Week in partnership with the Fashion Design Council of India.
“With the launch of Cielo, I want to celebrate the profound beauty of the Italian sky and sunsets, just as the timeless Italian classic ‘Il Cielo in Una Stanza,’” said eponymous designer Salita Nanda in a press release, referencing the classic Italian song known in English as ‘The Sky in a Room.’ The collection mixed painterly prints with striking burgundy outerwear and played with drapes to mix Indian and Italian sensibilities.
“Each piece in this collection serves as a canvas, to showcase the joy of colours, and the interplay of sheer fabrics and bold designs as the vibrant prints and unique silhouettes are designed just to adorn like an ethereal dream,” said Nanda. “From free-flowing dresses to structured silhouettes, every garment embodies a duality that speaks both freedom and form. As we incorporate techniques like hand painting and 3D embroidery, we infuse each piece with a sense of festivity and charm. At its core, Cielo is an invitation to step into a world of beauty and wonder, where fashion transcends mere clothing and becomes a powerful expression of self.”
Models wore jewellery by Solitario Diamonds and wore classically glamorous hair and makeup looks. Textiles used included organza, crepe, and satin shimmer and ethereal silhouettes were juxtaposed by more tailored pieces.
Lakmē Fashion Week in partnership with the Fashion Design Council of India ran from October 9 to 13 in New Delhi to showcase spring/ summer 2025 collections by brands from across the country. Featuring design contests and sustainable fashion showcases, the fashion week highlighted the work of both established and emerging designers.
