The Khadi and Village Industries Committee held a Samwad interaction at its head office in Mumbai and chairman Manoj Kumar announced that the third term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government will take the ‘New Khadi of new India’ to new heights.
“A complete roadmap has been prepared to take Khadi from local to global,” announced KVIC in a press release. “Khadi Village Industries Commission is also working on various schemes for skill development of artisans. Through these programs, efforts are being made for success in the field of village industry and employment.”
The organisation is also gearing up to launch the ‘Silai Samriddhi Yojana’ initiative for women in the near future to boost women’s employment with opportunities for skilled labour. Through its numerous programmes, KVIC announced that it has contributed to economic improvement in both rural and urban areas.
Kumar reiterated Modi’s goal to achieve a ‘Developed India’ by the year 2047. KVIC will contribute to this by bolstering its plan to strengthen the ‘Khadi Gram Swaraj Abhiyan’ in each Indian village, according to Kumar.
KVIC reported that there has been a four-fold increase in the sale of Khadi products and that this has directly led to improving the financial situations of rural artisans. The organisation also reported a 233% rise in artisans’ wages over the past 10 years which has made the sector more attractive as a career choice.
