Designer Rimzim Dadu presented an avant-garde take on historical architecture with bold silhouettes and experimental textile techniques at Hyundai India Couture Week. The runway show took place on July 30 in New Delhi and Bollywood celebrity Sobhita Dhulipala turned showstopper for the eponymous designer.
The Pearl academy presents Rimzim Dadu showcase took men’s and women’s occasion wear staples such as suits and gowns and turned them into wearable sculptures. Dadu used her signature steel tread techniques to craft wearable filigree, fluid gowns, and armour-like dinner jackets.
Sobhita Dhulipala closed the show in a tactile white ensemble which contrasted a bralet with a floor length skirt featuring fluid, fringe like tendrils. Models wore shoes by Christian Louboutin and jewellery by Narayan Jewels to add glamour and sparkle to the event.
“I love a sense of deception in my designs,” said Rimzim Dadu, she posted on her brand’s Facebook page. “Clothes that look structured, almost like an armour, are fluid and soft. It’s only the wearer who’s privy to this dynamic – soft yet strong.”
Rimzim Dadu launched her eponymous brand in 2007 and it has become known for its fluid garments made from hair-thin steel wires, sewn together to form a structured textile. The brand retails from its dedicated e-commerce store and flagship store in Delhi’s DLF Emporio. The label has also dressed numerous Bollywood celebrities including Sonam Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Deepika Padukone among others.
The 17th edition of Hyundai India Couture Week runs from July 24 to 31 at the Taj Palace in New Delhi. This season, sponsors include Hyundai, Reliance Brands Limited, and Lotus Makeup and runway shows are filmed and shared across the Fashion Design Council of India and Hyundai India’s respective social media pages.
