Matthew Macfadyen is feeling a certain way about a previous role!
On Tuesday, the Deadpool & Wolverine star appeared on CBS Mornings, where he revealed that despite all the love he got for playing Mr. Darcy in 2005’s Pride & Prejudice, he isn’t very fond of it.
“No, I didn’t really,” he told Anthony Mason about having many worries as a young actor as he played the role. “I feel bad saying that. There were moments I had a good time. But I wish I’d enjoyed it more. I wish I was less worried. I just felt a bit miscast. I wasn’t dishy enough. But it worked out.”
Macfadyen, 49, played opposite Keira Knightley in the film based on the romance novel by Jane Austen. Almost 20 years later, Macfadyen doesn’t mind when people come up to him and notice him for the role. In fact, he embraces it, simply because he’s proud people still recognize him.
“I figure I can’t be aging that badly,” he quipped about the fan recognition.
One famous fan in particular who took an interest in Mr. Darcy was Ayo Edebiri, who admitted that she got in trouble for having a picture of Mr. Darcy as her screensaver on her teen laptop. The interaction was captured at the Emmys, where the Succession star reacted to getting The Bear actress in trouble in her younger years.
“She was grounded, she had a screensaver of me as Mr. Darcy on her laptop,” Macfadyen quipped to ET about hearing the fellow Emmy winner’s childhood story firsthand. “Good parenting, that’s good.”
