Director Amar Kaushik is the man of the moment, his latest film Stree 2 starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao is one of the biggest spinners of all time in Hindi Cinema, currently on 16th spot, after minting over Rs 290 crore in just 8 days. However, Amar is not in the country. Soon after the release of the film, he took off to London, and talking to ETimes exclusively from there, he shared the reason behind his absence. He said, “ A trip to London was always planned, my producer Dinesh Vijan and I were talking about it, earlier we were planning to go immediately after the release, then we delayed it for a week to enjoy the success party and post that, we took off.”
He added, “Also I didn’t want the success to go to our heads. Yes, success motivates, but also it spoils you and I’m sure we will see many Fridays like this,” he added. He also shared the plans on how he’s going to spend the money he’s earned from the success of Stree 2, he said , “ Aur filmein banayege ..acchi acchi filmein banayegee ( we will make many more good films).
In his six year long career, Amar had directed 4 films, out of which 3 have been part of Horror-Comedy Universe ( Stree, Bhediya and Stree 2), when asked if he would like to make a film which is not part of the universe, he said “ When I made Stree, there was a demand from the audience that they want to see the second part, and we started writing it post covid and we released the film in 2024 … I had many stories within me which are not part of the supernatural horror comedy genre, which I wanted to direct. It’s not that it’s easy to direct or conceive a horror comedy film.. One needs conviction and one needs to believe in it. Films are mostly about conviction, and I’m really enjoying creating the world of horror comedy. I, of course, have produced movies like Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga, but one will definitely see me directing something that is not part of the universe.”
Amar also opened up about the fact that while making Stree, there were no plans about the sequel or the universe. In fact, he also revealed that Stree had a different ending and the entire concept of Stree’s ‘Choti’ was a last minute addition to the script. He said, “When we were making Stree, I was making it only to make my first film. Like, if you remember, in the climax of the film, Shraddha is talking about Stree’s ‘choti’, actually it was not part of the original script , it came on the set . I just thought about it, and we asked our art team to get one ‘choti’ just two days before the shoot day. In fact, the chopping of the choti portion was shot after we shot the end scene of the film in the bus . We had also thought that we might not keep the ‘choti’ portion in the edit, and if you notice we even shot that scene in the bus in a very hurried way, like when Shraddha disappears, there’s only one camera on the conductor and we pan – that’s it! However, it worked and there was also another ending, wherein Stree comes back to the town, but you don’t know if she enters the town or not as it’s written ‘ Oh Stree raksha karna’, and we ended it there…”
