How To Beat The Scadutree Avatar in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree
To beat the Scadutree Avatar in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC, you need to master its move sets. This boss fight has three phases and changes its attacks at each stage to make them more challenging. So, unless you’re a master at dodging, you’re more than likely going to get hit.
Fortunately, because the Scadutree Avatar primarily deals Physical and Holy Damage, you can mitigate its effectiveness with the Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman , which reduces Physical Damage taken by 20%. For the Holy Damage, you can use the Haligdrake Talisman, which reduces Holy Damage taken by 25%. Both of these Talismans will help reduce the amount of damage that the Scadutree Avatar can deal to you with its attacks.
Scadutree Avatar Move List |

---|---|---|
Attack |
Description |
How To Counter |
Triple Tree Root |
The Scadutree Avatar will send three tree roots toward you dealing damage. |
Dodge to the left or right. |
Double Root Swing |
When in close, the Scadutree Avatar will swing its arms in a 360. |
Dodge the first arm, then take a half-second pause before dodging the second arm. You will get hit if you immediately go into the second dodge after the first. |
Head Stomp |
When you’re in close or attack the Scadutree Avatar’s head, it will counter by slamming its head on the ground near you. |
This can simply be evaded with a well-timed roll, either through or out of the way of the Head Stomp. |
Root Swing |
When in close, the Scadutree Avatar will swing either arm to the left or right. |
Perform a well-timed dodge in the opposite direction as the arm swings. So, if the Scadutree Avatar swings left to right with its left arm, you should dodge to the right and into the arm. Proper timing is required, of course. |
Root Pound |
The Scadutree Avatar will swing its arms down towards you, crashing into the ground. |
Perform a well-timed roll to the right or left. |
4 Root Pound |
At close range, the Scadutree Avatar will smash its root arms towards you four times. The last one will be a charged attack causing branches to shoot out in a small circle for AoE damage. |
The first three attacks can easily be dodged with well-timed rolls. However, because the last attack does AoE damage and lingers for a second, you can’t just dodge through it. Instead, you need to roll out of its range. |
Thrust |
The Scadutree Avatar will quickly thrust itself toward you. |
Perform a well-timed roll to the right or left. |
4 Blasts |
When you’re at a distance, the Scadutree Avatar will charge a blast through its head and shoot four beams toward you. |
Wait for the beams to shoot or get close to you then roll to the right or left. The timing on this one is quite tricky, and it will most likely take a few tries before you get it down. |
Ground Smash |
This is another charged attack that will cause branches to shoot out in a circle, causing AoE damage. |
You can try rolling through this attack, however, the timing is nearly impossible to get down. So instead, you need to get out of its range, which means running or pulling off two or three rolls away from the enemy before the attack lands. |
Head Thrust |
This is another attack where the Scadutree Avatar will smash its head at you. |
Perform a well-timed roll to the right or left. |
Area of Thorns |
The Scadutree Avatar will summon branches in a wide area, dealing damage. |
When the Scadutree Avatar charges this attack, glowing circles will appear on the ground, indicating where the branches will shoot out from. To dodge it, roll or run out of the glowing circles area. |
Charged Light Explosion |
This phase three attack is the Scadutree Avatar’s most difficult. It will charge up an AoE explosion that shoots out beams of light and deal damage. It can perform this explosion once or up to three times. |
Although this move is challenging to dodge, you can avoid the light beams with a well-timed dodge to the left or right. This is easier done at further distances since you have a longer window of time before the light beam hits you. |
One of the most important tips for beating the Scadutree Avatar in the Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC is to use a critical hit when the boss goes down at the end of each phase. This will result in the Scadutree Avatar losing 25% of its health bar in the next stage. However, if you just do a basic attack when it’s down at the end of the phase, it will spawn with full health in its next phase.
You do more damage to the Scadutree Avatar by attacking its head, rather than its body or arms. Additionally, unlike Elden Ring‘s Furnace Golems, the Scadutree Avatar has a weakness to fire. So, if you have any weapons or spells with that effect, that will help deal a bit more damage with each hit. Take advantage of these weaknesses, because you’ll need every trick in the book when it comes to beating the new bosses in the Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring.
