2005’s The Longest Yard cast is led by Adam Sandler but he also assembled a very interesting ensemble to back him up. Directed by Peter Segal, the sports comedy is a remake of the 1974 film of the same name. Revolving around a washed-out quarterback serving time in prison, he gets a chance at redemption as he assembles a football team of fellow inmates to play against the guards. While the remake falls short of the original, the 2005 version of The Longest Yard still draws laughs thanks to its fun cast.
Not surprisingly, Sandler brings along some notable comedians to fill out the cast, including his good friend Chris Rock. However, he also includes some veteran character actors, like James Cromwell and William Fichtner. Adding to the sports movie element, there are some real-life football players like Bob Sapp and Michael Irvin, and some big-name wrestlers also add to the tough-guy ensemble with Steve Austin and Bill Goldberg. There is even a nice reference to the original with Burt Reynolds, star of the 1974 version, joining the cast. It makes for a unique collection of stars for The Longest Yard.
