Trump’s Weirdest Rally Yet Leaves ‘Daily Show’ Stunned

“The Daily Show” correspondent Desi Lydic was stunned by Donald Trump’s bizarre town hall this week in which he bailed on the event’s Q&A format and just played music.

Lydic rolled footage of the former president dancing, swaying and pantomiming some of the lyrics, which he did for some 40 minutes at the event in Pennsylvania.

“I literally have no idea what just happened,” she said on Tuesday night. “I don’t know if he’s on edibles or if I’m on edibles.”

Lydic pointed out the glaring hypocrisy in how Trump is covered versus how Vice President Kamala Harris is.

“I love how everyone’s always criticizing Kamala for not being specific with her policies,” she said. “Meanwhile, Trump’s like, ‘Shh, shh, shh. No questions. No talking. We’re just gonna vibe for a while.’”

At one point, Trump requested “Ave Maria.” When he got the instrumental version, he let the song play but then asked for it again ― this time with vocals by Luciano Pavarotti.

“Why does Trump know so much about ‘Ave Maria.’ Was it used in a McDonald’s commercial?” Lydic asked. “Man, he really loves that song. Who’s gonna tell him it’s about a virgin?”

She also felt a little sympathy for “puppy shooter” Kristi Noem, the South Dakota governor who was onstage with Trump as all this unfolded.

“This is the most I’ve ever related to her,” she said. “Because we’ve all been in a situation where a guy mansplains his Spotify playlist to you.”

Noem tried to get the event back on track with more questions. Trump briefly entertained the idea, but then decided to play more music instead.

“Probably a good idea to shut down questions since I’m pretty sure the next one would’ve been, ‘Uh, hi sir. What the fuck is going on?’” Lydic said.
