A huge celebration is coming to the Nintendo Switch this year, with the new Super Mario Party Jamboree that will bring all new boards, minigames, and more to the Mario Party franchise. The virtual board game series that is filled with minigames has been around in various forms since its original release in 1998 and features many beloved characters from the Mario universe. It is a lighthearted and entertaining party game for groups to enjoy, with the option to play against AI-controlled bots as well if the chosen number of players is not available.
Revealed in the June 2024 Nintendo Direct, Super Mario Party Jamboree promises to be the biggest Mario Party game to date. It comes packed with over 110 minigames, a 20-player online multiplayer mode, and many new boards to traverse. The most recent entry in the franchise, Mario Party Superstars, was released for the Nintendo Switch in 2021, and this announcement surprised many with the concept that a new game would debut before the successor to the Switch console. However, new games for the series typically come out every two to three years, which means Super Mario Party Jamboree is actually right on time.

Mario Party Superstars brings back 100 retro minigames, and 5 classic boards, in a nostalgic trip through the decades for the Nintendo Switch.
Super Mario Party Jamboree is expected to be available on October 17, 2024, and as is the usual case for all Mario games, it will be available exclusively on Nintendo Switch. Depending on when the as-yet-unnamed Switch 2 console is revealed, this Mario Party game may also be made available for the new Nintendo system, although that is speculation at this point. A price for the game has not yet been revealed, although if it follows typical Nintendo pricing, it will likely be $59.99 USD, or around that price.
In the above trailer from the June 2024 Nintendo Direct, Kamek kicks things off by stating that this is a bigger and bolder Mario Party. This is further emphasized through the trailer’s depiction of many new boards and minigames, a stark contrast to the previous Mario Party Superstars which was touted as a celebration of the history of the franchise and used many throwbacks and revamped versions of classic boards. Super Mario Party Jamboree seems to be shaking things up again with many new and exciting things to see and do.

The addition of one key title completes a library that makes the Nintendo Switch a satisfying one-stop-shop for all things Mario Party.
Of the seven maps revealed for Super Mario Party Jamboree, only two are returning boards from previous games. Mario’s Rainbow Castle will be making a comeback from the original Mario Party game of 1998, with updated graphics and mechanics. Likewise, the Western Land map from Mario Party 2 is included in the lineup for board choices, with fresh graphics and design. None of the boards which were in Mario Party Superstars are included, which will help provide a fresh feeling for Switch players.
Board Name | New Or Returning |
---|---|
Goomba Lagoon | New |
King Bowser’s Keep | New |
Mario’s Rainbow Castle | Returning from Mario Party |
Mega Wiggler’s Tree Party | New |
Rainbow Galleria | New |
Roll ’em Raceway | New |
Western Land | Returning from Mario Party 2 |
Very quick peeks into the new boards were shown in the trailer, which have new map-specific game mechanics and environmental hazards. The entire game is themed around taking place on a large island resort, with the respective maps all continuing with that theme. The Goomba Lagoon board is shown to have rising water tides and a dangerous volcano. Another new map, Roll ’em Raceway, depicts players traversing the board in racing karts, with a unique mechanic of being able to move up to 40 spaces depending on the roll of the dice.
The biggest draw of the Mario Party games are the silly and unique minigames where players compete either against or with each other to earn coins. Super Mario Party Jamboree will include over 110 minigames, the largest selection of games ever included in a Mario Party title. It is not evident how many are returning classics and how many will be entirely new games, and many players have favorites that they will likely be hoping to see.
All minigames appear to be fairly typical of the Mario Party theme, offering short challenges and puzzles for players to either compete against each other or sometimes alongside in cooperative challenges. A few of the minigames will continue the tradition of offering motion controls that utilize the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons.
Playable characters have not been specifically announced, but there are many that were shown in the trailer. Here is a list of the characters spied so far:

Of course, the full list of playable characters is yet to be revealed and with the possibility of up to 20 players participating in the Koopathlon, it could be that there are even more possibilities than listed above, to help provide more options for large groups.
