‘Thangalaan’ is based on the true events that revolve around the lives of mine workers in the Kolar Gold Fields, Karnataka, and the film is reportedly based on the often-unheard and unexplored history of how the Dalits of Tamil Nadu mined and created the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) with their bare hands. The film also focuses on rewriting and reclaiming Dalit history through Pa Ranjith’s political and cinematic ways. ‘Thangalaan’ was announced in 2021 and the movie stars Vikram in the lead role as a fierce tribal leader who helps the British in excavating gold from his ancestor’s land which makes him face the wrath of an apparent sorceress.
