‘Alien: Romulus’ first reactions: Critics rave about Fede Alvarez’s film; say it ‘pays perfect homage to the original’ |

The Aliens are back and director Fede Alvarez is serving up the chills and thrills for fans of the franchise.
‘Alien: Romulus‘, the latest instalment in the popular sci-fi franchise, has hosted its first screenings and the reactions are overwhelmingly positive with critics raving about its faithful homage to the original 1979 classic.
Alvarez, known for his work on horror films like ‘Evil Dead’ and ‘Don’t Breathe’ is bringing back the fear into fans’ hearts with the fearsome return of the Xenomorph to the big screen.According to the early Twitter reactions, critics are praising ‘Alien: Romulus’ for its intense scares, practical effects, and a standout cast that delivers the tension and terror the series is known for.
Many are even claiming that the director has successfully crafted one of the best entries in the 45-year-old franchise.
The film keeping to the gritty, atmospheric horror that made Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’ a masterpiece has been a highlight for many. “It pays perfect homage to the original,” one critic noted, while others have lauded the movie’s ability to ‘recapture the claustrophobic dread’ that defined the franchise’s early days.
The practical effects, which are a nod to the original film’s work, have also been a major talking point, with reviewers commending the film’s commitment to real, tangible horror over digital effects. “The scares are as real as they come,” one reviewer remarked, praising the film’s ability to create genuine fear through its use of practical effects.
Check out the early reactions below:

‘Alien: Romulus’, which arrives in U.S. theatres on August 16, is a standalone film that takes place between the events of the 1979 ‘Alien’ movie and the 1986 ‘Aliens’ film. The sci-fi horror film follows a group of young scavengers who enter a derelict space station looking for valuables. However, instead of finding anything profitable, they are hunted and attacked by vicious Xenomorphs.
“Romulus” director and writer Fede Alvarez was dedicated to making the aliens in the film look and feel as real as possible.
“When it comes to the xenomorph, when you have those face-to-face encounters, you know, there’s just nothing that beats the practical,” Alvarez said about making convincing extraterrestrials.
