Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield find a years-long love story in their new film, We Live in Time.
The first trailer for the A24 romantic comedy-drama was released on Wednesday, giving fans a first look at the film, details of which have been kept under wraps throughout production.
The official synopsis for the film reveals that the love story between Pugh and Garfield’s characters, Almut and Tobias, is told through “snapshots of their life together — falling for each other, building a home, becoming a family.”
From their “meet cute,” when Almut accidentally hits Tobias with her car, to professional hurdles, to devastating health struggles, the couple “learn to cherish each moment of the unconventional route their love story has taken.”
“I am guilty of looking ahead, instead of right in front of me — at you,” Tobias declares in one fraught moment.

“Almut (Florence Pugh) and Tobias (Andrew Garfield) are brought together in a surprise encounter that changes their lives. Through snapshots of their life together — falling for each other, building a home, becoming a family — a difficult truth is revealed that rocks its foundation. As they embark on a path challenged by the limits of time, they learn to cherish each moment of the unconventional route their love story has taken, in filmmaker John Crowley’s decade-spanning, deeply moving romance.”
Pugh teased the trailer release on Tuesday, sharing the film’s poster — which features her and Garfield leaning in for a kiss — on her Instagram feed.
“Making this movie was such an unbelievably beautiful experience,” she captioned the pic. “I’m thrilled and proud to say that it’s nearly here for all of you to watch soon. In the meantime, here’s some pretty breadcrumbs ;).”
When ET spoke with Pugh at the Dune: Part Two premiere earlier this year, she raved about getting to work with Garfield on the film, directed by Brooklyn‘s John Crowley, with a script from British playwright and screenwriter Nick Payne.
“That one, we just had the most beautiful time making it — we made a real story about real people and I got to work with the most unbelievable actor that I feel so honored to be in his presence and shout lines back to him,” the Little Women star raved.
“I’m just still in love with the process of making the movie, so I hope the people appreciate watching it,” Pugh added.
We Live in Time is in theaters Oct. 11.
