
There seems to be no stopping for Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 as it goes past some of the biggest movies to cement a place for itself in the history books. On Saturday morning it became the 18th biggest hit of Indian cinema, nudging past Rajinikanth’s Jailer and Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju. And by Monday morning the film has jumped 6 spots to claim the position of 12th biggest hit of Indian cinema displacing Prabhas and SS Rajamouli’s Bahubali- The Beginning. Kantara 2 over it’s first extended weekend minted Rs 337.4 crore, on its second Friday the film added another Rs 22.25 crore – a 5% jump from it’s Thursday collection. But on Saturday the film witnessed a jump of over 75% to mint Rs 39 crore and on Sunday it saw a miniscule 2.56% jump to collect Rs 40 crore. With that the total collection of the film reached Rs 438.65 crore going well past Bahiubali 1’s lifetime collection of Rs 421 crore With its second weekend collection Kantara 2 has gone past other films like Rajinikanth- Akshay Kumar and Shankar’s 2.0 ( Rs 407.05 crore), Salaar: Part 1- Ceasefire ( Rs 406.45 crore ), James Cameron ‘s Avatar: The Way of Water ( Rs 391.4 crore), Aamir Khan’s Dangal ( Rs 387.38 crore ) and Anthony& Joe Russo’s Avengers : Endgame ( Rs 373.05 crore). With no real competition till Diwali, Kantara 2 has long legs at the box office but for the film to make any change in its ranking would now need a solid jump. At 11th spot sits Sunny Deol’s comeback film Gadar 2 with Rs 525.7 crore collection and journey to that destination needs another Rs 87.28 crore which might happen only by Thursday or Friday.
Kantara 2 features Gulshan Devaiah, Jayaram and Rakimini Vasanth in pivotal roles, the makers have announced the third part with the climax of the second part. On it’s tenth anniversary Bahubali- The Epic- a reimaged version of both the films together is hitting the theaters on 31st October giving fans to rewatch the favourite stars like Rana Dagubatti, Anushka Shetty, Tamannah Bhatia,Ramya and Sathyaraj on the big screen once again.
