Amid a brewing controversy, Divya Khossla Kumar has escalated her feud with Alia Bhatt, particularly targeting the box office performance of her recently released film ‘Jigra‘. The conflict has intensified as Divya took to Instagram to express her discontent, showcasing a photo of an empty theater during a ‘Jigra’ screening.
In her Instagram story, she accused Alia of manipulating box office figures, stating, “Went to Citi Mall PVR for Jigra show.Theatre was totally empty … all theaters going empty everywhere. #Aliabhatt me sach mein Bahut #Jigra hai.. khud hi tickets karide aur fake collections announce kar diye. Wonder why paid media is silent. #weshdnotfooltheaudience #truthoverlies #HappyDussehra”.
Divya’s remarks suggest that she believes Alia has purchased tickets for her own film to artificially inflate its box office numbers. Her use of hashtags like #truthoverlies and her pointed jab at Alia’s courage to face the truth have added fuel to the fire, making this public spat a hot topic among fans.
The feud is not solely about box office figures; it also involves accusations of story theft. The films of both ladies revolve around jailbreaks, Divya’s ‘Savi‘ featuring a housewife attempting to free her husband from a high-security prison in England, while Alia’s character in ‘Jigra’ seeks to rescue her brother from jail.
Divya acknowledged the similarities but emphasized that each film has its own unique journey. In an interview with IANS she stated, “Yes, I too have been getting this question a lot from the media, the industry, and the trade that ‘Savi’ and ‘Jigra’ are seeming very similar… with the love of the audience and the grace of God that ‘Savi’ has proved its worth totally on its own merits.”
Meanwhile, ‘Jigra’ has been receiving a blend of reactions from both audiences and critics. On its opening day, ‘Jigra’ earned ₹4.25 crore at the domestic box office, selling approximately 18,000 tickets across the top three national chains. The film was released in around 2,200 to 2,500 on its first day.
