We are still a year away from the first live-action DCU project from James Gunn and Peter Safran’s revamped comic book franchise, but fans have already been sharing their vision of what could be coming beyond the upcoming Superman. After the reveal of David Corenswet as the new face of Superman, one fan art piece has incorporated the confirmed Man of Steel alongside a fan favorite of Jensen Ackles as Batman. DC Studios will soon be moving forward with The Brave and The Bold, which will bring the sixth big screen Batman to life, and while that film does not yet have an actor attached in the lead role, fans have been calling Ackles a top choice for some time.
Jensen Ackles has a legion of fans thanks to his role as Soldier Boy in Prime Video’s The Boys, and his 15-year stint as Dean Winchester in the fantasy horror show Supernatural. For that reason, it is not surprising that his followers would love to see him as the next Dark Knight. Now those fans can get an idea of what the collaboration between Ackles and Corenswet could look like thanks to an image shared by Smartsheep.Art.
Naturally, the truth about the casting of the new Batman is something that Gunn has suggested will not be coming just yet. With production on Superman in full flow, the writer/director is currently focusing all of his attention on the 2025 release, and will only move on to sharing details of the DCU’s next Batman when the time is right.
Although James Gunn has packed out his Superman movie with many DC heroes, the Dark Knight will not feature in the first film of Gunn’s tenure as one of the CEOs driving the revamped franchise forward. While that gives Corenswet a chance to gain his footing without being in the shadow of the bat, it also means that there will likely be many more rumors of who may or may not be donning the cowl next.
Fans have already shared many diverse opinions on the first look at Corenswet in his Superman costume. These ranged from those who loved the reveal, to those who just wanted to declare that he will never live up to his almost god-like predecessor, Henry Cavill. When the first footage of the movie finally arrives, it may change the minds of some of the nay-sayers, although there will always be those who will never get over the loss of Cavill.

The reveal of Superman’s new DCU suit has instigated many reactions, including one piece of art that brings the new and old Men of Steel together.
Whatever divided opinions have been shared in relation to Corenswet’s casting and appearance as Superman, when Gunn announces his Batman actor, the internet will once again light up with arguments about who should have been cast, and why the chosen star is not as good as several other options would have been. Jensen Ackles is just one name in the frame, with Reacher star Alan Ritchson and Road House’s Jake Gyllenhaal also among the list of names that continue to circulate online. Picking the new Dark Knight is certainly not an easy task, and no one will be envious of Gunn and Safran for ultimately having the final say on who will become Gotham’s next protector.
