In a development that will disappoint millions of Swifties worldwide, it appears Taylor Swift isn’t joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). At least not yet. According to an exclusive report from Entertainment Weekly, the Grammy-winning pop star is not playing either Dazzler or Lady Deadpool in Deadpool and Wolverine, coming to theaters July 26. EW reports that Swift will not appear in the film at all, ending months of internet speculation and wild theories tied to images and trailers for the movie.
With the film already boasting a number of cameos from past Marvel films, it seemed an appearance by the world’s most popular singer right now would be a no-brainer. While EW confirmed Swift will not be in the film, they could not confirm who is playing either character in the third Deadpool movie, which sees star Ryan Reynolds team up with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine for an event film the MCU desperately needs right now.
Speculation of Swift’s appearance was fueled by the fact that she is best friends with actress Blake Lively, Reynold’s wife. Her appearance last year at a Kansas City Chiefs football game in a group that included the film’s director, Shawn Levy, only sent the rumors into overdrive.
We do know the film will see the return of Deadpool actors Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna, Stefan Kapičić, and Rob Delaney.
