Maurice DuBois said Thursday he is leaving “CBS Evening News” on Dec. 18, joining coanchor John Dickerson, who already announced his upcoming departure.

Their pairing lasted less than a year as the newscast struggled against its network rivals.
While DuBois emanated goodwill in his Instagram farewell ― “I’ll leave filled with gratitude, cherished relationships and amazing memories” ― his exit was a bit more contentious, according to a New York Post report.
Citing sources, the tabloid said that DuBois was already told by brass he was on the way out, prompting him to go “rogue” in his goodbye announcement. That left CBS News racing to go in-house to try to sign Tony Dokoupil of “CBS Mornings” ― a supposed preference of new editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, according to the Post.

Weiss, a conservative former columnist for The New York Times, was reportedly brought aboard to steer the network more toward the right.
CBS News President Tom Cibrowski vigorously denied the New York Post report, telling the tabloid that he had worked with DuBois on his departure announcement for a few weeks.
“It is my hope that we can work together again. We will have more details on the next chapter of CBS Evening News in the near future,” Cibrowski said in a statement to CNN.
Neither Dickerson nor DuBois has publicly given a reason for leaving.
CBS hopes to announce Dokoupil as the sole anchor in the near future if it can work out a contract, insiders told the New York Post.
DuBois logged 21 years combined with CBS’ New York affiliate and then the national network.
