Remember Nicolas Cage’s poor pig in the 2021 film of the same name, which may or may not have (no spoilers) gone “wee, wee, wee… all the way home?” Well, John Krasinski certainly does. The brains behind the burgeoning horror franchise, A Quiet Place, imparted to director Michael Sarnoski that he’d like the filmmaker to “bring some of that Pig touch to” A Quiet Place: Day One. So, Sarnoski spoke about adapting elements of Pig into Day One during an interview with Empire magazine. The director said:
“When [Krasinski] first brought me onto the project
, his directive was,
‘Can you bring some of that Pig touch to the A Quiet Place universe?’
What he wanted was to see someone else play in the sandbox that he had created.
Finding those differences was exciting. It wasn’t something that we leaned away from.”
Starnoski’s Pig was a critically-acclaimed success, which still registers an impressive 97% on the Tomatometer against 274 reviews, while also holding an audience score of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. While the dark drama didn’t fare too well during its theatrical release worldwide ($3.9 million total per Box Office Mojo), its director will be playing in a much more lucrative sandbox, at least where the first two installments of Krasinski’s A Quiet Place franchise are concerned.
One thing horror fans know for sure is that they will find out more about Djimon Hounsou’s mysterious character who appeared in A Quiet Place Part II. That’s the word from director Michael Saronski. However, unlike the first two Quiet Place installments, Day One will focus on strangers trying to survive the alien invasion rather than families. It’s an entirely new dynamic the filmmaker was eager to explore. Sarnoski said in the same interview:
“In the first two,
family was really important.
And with that comes characters that have an
established relationship.
I wanted to explore what the end of
the world looked like for people that didn’t have an established relationship, or a reason to care about each other.”

We finally have our first look at horror prequel A Quiet Place: Day One, which finds Lupita Nyong’o fighting (quietly) for her life.
Sarnoski continued:
“It’s something I learned on Pig as well:
Don’t be scared of
taking big swings and trying new things.
I could have gone into this just terrified, but I decided to just be like,
‘I’m just gonna give it a shot, hope for the best, and be daring with stuff.’”
Even though Day One co-star Alex Wolff insists the third Quiet Place entry is a drama, rather than a horror flick, fans can still expect plenty to be frightened of — not to mention some bloody and gnarly alien carnage — when A Quiet Place: Day One opens in theaters on June 28.
