While Joker has 10 different romance options to pursue in Persona 5 Royal, perhaps one of the more unique love interests is his teacher, Sadayo Kawakami. Though it is not the game’s main focus, getting to know others is part of the experience. Not to mention, since each love interest is linked to a specific Arcana, they’re worth taking the time to get to know.
While you do have the option of foregoing any romance options, which is also one of the achievements of Persona 5 Royal, alongside dating them all, you will still need to start as friends. Once you reach Rank 9, Joker will be prompted with a question from the confidant that will warn the nature of the relationship will change, so choose carefully.

In Persona 5 Royal, Kawakami works as a teacher by day and a maid by night. Players must work hard to get romantically involved because she is only available after the end of May and on certain specific days of the week. They’ll also need relatively large savings, as Kawakami will only visit and allow Joker to progress in the romance if he has enough money to pay for her cleaning and cooking services.
Maxing out Kawakami will unlock her ability to do things for you, like laundry or cooking, allowing you to gain the benefits without doing them yourself.
She can offer massages after entering the Metaverse,
preventing you from being too exhausted to go out at night. This is one of the most valuable confidants you can complete in a game with limited time.
Because Kawakami’s Arcana, Temperance, will unlock at the end of May, players looking to enter a romance with her will want to progress through the main campaign as they normally would.
During this time, it’s best to complete the first and second Palaces as quickly as possible to give Joker the maximum amount of time with Kawakami once she becomes available. Additionally, use this time to pursue other romances in Persona 5 Royal if you choose to do so.

A few days after completing the Second Palace, Yuuki Mishima will bring Joker and Ryuji a maid service flyer. When they call the number, Kawakami arrives and leaves almost immediately after asking Joker and the others to refrain from saying anything.
At school the following day, Joker can speak to Kawakami again as Ms. Chouno chides her, and if you help her, she will provide a number for Joker to call at night from the phone at the Leblanc Cafe once you have reached Level 3 Guts.
During the conversation, Kawakami agreed to help him with after-school chores. This will officially unlock Rank 1 for Kawakami and begin the Temperance confidant. This will also allow Joker to Slack Off in Kawakami’s class, allowing him to use this time to level up other social stats in Persona 5 Royal that he may not otherwise have time for. Following this, you must call Kawakami when she’s working and invite her over to continue progressing her ranks.

This visit, unlike the previous ones, will take place at the hospital where Kawakami has recently been admitted. Due to the s, Joker will not have to pay the typical fee required when calling Kawakami. Aside from Joker saving money during this Persona encounter, another thing to look out for in this scene is that it offers the first nudge towards romancing Kawakami, so tread carefully.

At Rank 8, players will unlock a special Kawakami Mementos quest called “A Teacher Maid to Suffer.” During school, Joker stumbles upon a pair of parents harassing Kawakami for money. Following this, Joker and the Phantom Thieves will need to enter Mementos to change the hearts of the two parents.
This quest takes place in the Path of Chemdah: Area 7. Once this quest is complete, Kawakami will express a desire to quit the maid business, which is when you will have the chance to lock in your romance with her.

This next hangout will be imperative as it is when you will officially lock in whether you have decided to romance Kawakami or just stay friends. Note that there will be extra dialogue over the phone if you choose to stay friends, but you will not get a call through the romance route.
