With each passing day, Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD is setting new benchmarks at the box office. Just yesterday the film went on to become the sixth highest grossing Indian film in North America beating the likes of Aamir Khan’s PK and Dangal. In India it has now replaced Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan’s Shaitaan to become the second highest grossing film in Hindi of 2024.It is second only to Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone’s Fighter, which crossed the Rs 200 crore mark.
Released on 27th June, Kalki had an extended weekend at the box office which went a long way in giving its collection an extra push. The film in Hindi began on a slow note but as the weekend was about to get over, the collections began to jump. In Hindi, Kalki 2898 AD earned Rs 22.5 crore on Thursday, Rs 23 crore on Friday, Rs 26 crore on Saturday, Rs 40 crore on Sunday, Rs 16.5 crore on Monday, Rs 13 crore on Tuesday and on Wednesday, it added another Rs 11.5 crore to its total, as per early estimates by Sacnilk. Thus taking the total collection to Rs 152.5, beating Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan’s Shaitaan, which had minted about Rs 150 crore at the box office.
The Hindi collections are going to witness a major spike over the weekend as Ajay Devgn and Tabu starrer film Auron Mein Kaha Dum Tha, which was supposed to release on 5th July, has now been pushed to a later date. With only Lakshya and Raghav Juyal’s starring Kill releasing on Friday, Kalki 2898 AD will get a free run at the box office.
The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas and Deepika Padukone with guest appearances by Mrunal Thakur, Dulquer Salmaan, Vijay Deverakonda, SS Rajamouli and Ram Gopal Varma.
