The Dwarves of Deep Rock Galactic are in for the challenge of their lives thanks to Ghost Ship Games’ upcoming Season 5 called Drilling Deeper, which explores further depths in its mines and gameplay variety. Season 5 plans to give players access to past seasonal content and a treasure trove of new features.
Deep Rock Galactic is a humorous and well-constructed cooperative shooter that tasks up to four players to explore, mine, and shoot through procedurally generated alien mines to collect rare materials. Different mission types help unlock stylish cosmetics for the four classes of gruff Dwarf miners and weapons with their own add-ons that further expand gameplay. Hands-on time with Season 5 proved that June 12’s update is gearing up to improve many aspects of the game.
Dwarves Diagnose Deeper Depths In Deep Rock’s Drilling Deeper Update
Season 5 Of Deep Rock Galactic Releases June 12 On PC, And June 27 For Consoles
Deep Rock Galactic‘s Season 5 update includes a lot of what players may expect from a seasonal update, such as a new free Performance Pass that will provide ways to unlock new gear. Twelve new weapon overclock mods, a higher difficulty level, and new enemies, environments, and mission types will spoil veteran miners while proving there has been no better time to dive into Deep Rock Galactic.
One of the most exhilarating new features coming to Season 5 is a new mission type, Deep Scan. Dwarves must explore the mines infested with new enemy types that can turn invisible, infect other creatures with gross buffs, and more, all in pursuit of special crystals that ring with an odd ethereal, shimmering sound. Once enough are found, a Drillevator can be summoned to reach deeper into Hoxxes IV than players have ever gone before – something enemies won’t be allowing without a fight.
As the colossal drill attempts to reach the incredibly rare Morkite Geodes, waves of enemies will attempt to destroy the drill’s platform that players must stand on to defend. With the new Hazard 5+ level of difficulty, the descent into the depths of the planet is sure to challenge even the most experienced squads with an increased number of enemies who have more resilience than ever before. The new abilities enemies showcased during the hands-on time further improve the gameplay’s variety, and thankfully, players will have new abilities of their own.

The Xbox Games Showcase is an annual event including major announcements for some of the year’s biggest releases. Here’s what to expect in 2024.
Season 5 Adds New Things That Go Boom, As Well As Many Blasts From The Past
Deep Rock Galactic Is Available On PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PS5
In the past, Deep Rock Galactic has provided overclock weapon mods that add devastating effects to fan-favorite weapons. The Drilling Deeper update provides twelve new overclock mods, one for each class’s primary guns, like one that allows the missile launcher’s projectiles to turn into a rain of cluster-bomb explosions by holding down a button after it’s been launched. The new weapon abilities add even more variation to the addicting gameplay loop that Ghost Ship Games have been improving for years, a past that the game also plans to revisit in Season 5.
Loot and unlockables, once available in previous seasons, will now be accessible by visiting the hub world’s terminal. This means that new players will be able to enjoy past content, and veteran players will be able to go back and earn stuff from previous seasons that they may have missed. Everything coming to Season 5 seems to be a celebration of everything Deep Rock Galactic has accomplished since its release and a reward for those who’ve chanted “Rock and Stone” salutes to their teammates.
New Deep Rock Dangers Bring Galactic Bounties
While exploring the mines of Hoxxes IV, players will begin to encounter mysterious Core Stones that can provide lucrative bonuses for players who successfully harvest them. However, once the gravitational stones are disturbed, an eerie tear in reality appears and spews out traumatizing crawler enemies that can quickly overwhelm players. This is only one of the new types of battles that players can expect in Deep Rock Galactic‘s highly customizable missions.
Besides new unlockable weapon mods, cosmetics, and even new dance moves that finally reveal what it looks like when a space-mining dwarf twerks, upgrades to the game’s UI dramatically help sift through all the unlockables that players earn. While Deep Scan is the only new mission type coming with the Season 5 update, the new enemies, bosses, cave formations, and secondary objectives will add more than enough fresh challenges to keep things interesting for a long time.
