NEW DELHI: Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday chairs the 53rd Goods and Services Tax Council meeting at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Earlier in the day, FM Sitharaman also chaired high level pre-budget meeting with the finance ministers from all States and Union Territories, to gather input for the forthcoming
Union Budget 2024-25.
The pre-budget meeting has brought together ministers of State and other important stakeholders.Among the attendees are Suresh Kumar Khanna, the finance minister of Uttar Pradesh, and Diya Kumari, the finance minister of Rajasthan.
In preparation for the budget, the Union finance ministry had initiated consultations with various economic stakeholders a few days prior. Sitharaman engaged in discussions with economists, experts in finance and capital markets, as well as representatives from industry bodies.
The finance minsiter chaired the first pre-budget consultations with leading economists on June 19, which was attended by union minister of state for finance Pankaj Chaudhary, the finance secretary, secretaries of the departments of economic affairs, revenue, financial services and corporate affairs and the chief economic adviser.
Rajasthan deputy CM and finance minister Diya Kumari said “Today Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman called the Finance Ministers of all the states and held a pre-budget meeting, took suggestions and I have also got an opportunity from Rajasthan to put forward our demands here and of course, today I have asked for all the major demands of Rajasthan.”
The GST council convened for the first time since the establishment of the new government.
