To mark November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI) announces the appointment of Kulsum Shadab Wahab as its Women Empowerment Ambassador.
“We are proud to welcome Kulsum Shadab Wahab as our Women Empowerment Ambassador. Her dedication to supporting women who have survived violence is a powerful example of how fashion can make a real impact. Her vision and commitment reinforce CNMI’s determined pursuit of social responsibility,” said Carlo Capasa, President of CNMI.
An Indian philanthropist and founder of the Ara Lumiere brand, Kulsum Shadab Wahab has for many years supported women who have survived gender-based violence through her role as executive director of the Hothur Foundation, which is dedicated to ensuring freedom, dignity, and equal rights for women who have survived acid attacks.
Among the foundation’s tangible initiatives, the Ara Lumiere label now employs more than 100 women who have survived acid attacks, offering them training opportunities and economic independence. In 2022, the label was recognised at the CNMI Sustainable Fashion Awards with the Social Impact Award, in recognition of the project’s social and cultural value.
“The spirit of women, their courage, their resilience and their quiet strength will always guide me. In my role as ambassador, I carry their stories with me and move forward with determination and responsibility. Through fashion and social engagement, I strive to promote a world in which every woman feels free, strong and capable of shaping her own destiny, driving global change,” said Kulsum Shadab Wahab.
