CHENNAI: TVK has put on hold Vijay’s campaign trail across TN, asking district secretaries not to file requests with the police for permissions to conduct rallies. TVK district secretaries confirmed that Vijay’s meeting planned for this Saturday at Vellore and Ranipet will not take place. The schedule fixed weekend rallies in each district, with a target to complete them by December. When Vijay altered the plan to cover two districts a day instead of three, the schedule was extended until Feb 2026. Now, party insiders have indicated that Vijay may return to the campaign trail only by the third or fourth week of Oct.
In fact, the party rank and file was clueless for the past three days, in the wake of Vijay’s silence after the stampede. “It was unclear how we should proceed until the video from our leader came on Tuesday. His message that the political fight would continue gave us some clarity,” said a district-level organizer. Meanwhile, the party headquarters has told functionaries to be cautious in their social media posts. Those holding key posts have been asked not to make comments on the developments in the Karur case or respond to criticism from other parties. Leaders said this was to avoid further legal issues after a case was filed against Aadhav Arjuna for a deleted X post. Police said any future requests from TVK would be referred to the DGP’s office. For other political organizations, local police units have been instructed to enforce event guidelines more strictly, including crowd control and provision of basic facilities. The next major political gathering is expected on Oct 2, when AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami is set to campaign in Dharmapuri.
