
NEW DELHI: Delhi University has once again asserted its dominance in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), with 32 of its colleges featuring on the 2025 list. In the college category, India’s top five colleges belong to DU while 10 of its constituent colleges made it to the top 20. Hindu College and Miranda House retained their positions as the top two colleges, followed by Hansraj and Kirori Mal, while St Stephen’s slipped slightly to fifth from third. DU also climbed to its best-ever fifth position among the universities, improving from last year’s sixth. It rose to 12th from 14th in research and retained its 15th spot in the overall category. Calling it DU’s university’s best-ever performance in the NIRF rankings, vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh said, “It reflects the dedication and collective efforts of our faculty, students, staff, alumni and stakeholders, and will inspire us to reach greater heights.” Other Delhi institutions also made a mark, with eight featuring in the overall category, eight in universities, six in engineering and seven in medical. JNU kept its second spot among the universities while Jamia Millia Islamia was ranked fourth against last year’s third and advanced in architecture and planning, rising from seventh to fifth. IIT Delhi retained its overall fourth position and remained second in engineering and fourth in management. AIIMS Delhi continued to lead both the medical and dental categories and Jamia Hamdard topped pharmacy. National Law University Delhi secured the second position in law and IGNOU was declared the best open university. In the overall category, AIIMS Delhi slipped slightly to eighth from seventh and JNU improved from 10th to ninth.JNU vice-chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit said, “It is a great pride for all stakeholders in JNU as we have been declared the best multidisciplinary public university.” In the college category, Hansraj jumped from 12th to third and KMC moved up from ninth to fourth. Atma Ram Sanatan Dharm College dropped from fifth to seventh.Hindu College principal Anju Srivastava said, “It’s not just about rankings, but about consistently striving to provide students with an environment where they can grow. Emphasis is placed on research, skill-based education and hands-on experience, aligning with the goals of NEP and the broader vision of Viksit Bharat.” Miranda principal Bijayalaxmi Nanda noted, “It is the result of focused efforts on outreach, inclusivity and sustainability.” KMC principal Dinesh Khattar highlighted the role of research in driving success. “Many research initiatives were launched, including an interdisciplinary research project involving both students and teachers.”In NCR, Amity University, Gautam Budh Nagar, ranked 37 in the overall category. Among universities, it was ranked 22nd and Shiv Nadar University 57th. Management Development Institute in Gurgaon ranked ninth under management.
