RAIPUR: Height of brutality would be too mild a word if one describes an incident where a man hacked his mother with an axe in Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday morning. Making the incident more scarry, the accused sat near the corpse —that was so badly butchered that the body parts were beyond recognition— and was humming songs.It was some neighbours who first spotted the man, identified as Jeet Ram Yadav (28), sitting a few metres away from the badly butchered body of his mother Gulabi (59) and singing a song in anger while playing with sand. The gory incident was reported from Bendrerbhadra settlement in Kunkuri district.The terrified neighbours informed the police. When the cops arrived, Jeet Ram Yadav picked up the axe and attempted to attack them too. It took about four hours before police managed to overpower him.

Jashpur SP Shashimohan Singh said that the exact cause of incident isn’t known yet and prima facie, it appears that Yadav suffers with an unstable mind.He hacked his mother Gulabai around 5 am and according to what witnesses told police, he struck her repeatedly with an axe until she died on the spot. Following the brutal assault, he stayed seated near the body, singing songs and threatening anyone who tried to approach.Horrified neighbours raised an alarm, but none dared to intervene as the accused swung the axe at anyone who came close. By the time Kunkuri police arrived, hundreds of locals had gathered outside the house.Police officers initially hesitated to enter as Yadav got increasingly aggressive, brandishing the weapon. After nearly four hours of negotiations and tactical planning, a police team finally took him into custody, SP said.
