Sigourney Weaver discussed ‘Working Girl’ and ‘Ghostbusters 2’ in 1988 | KCRA Entertainment Archives
Weaver reflected on her roles in ‘Working Girl’ and her excitement for ‘Ghostbusters 2’ during a 1988 interview.
Why don’t you pour us *** cup of coffees and come on inside on light. No sugar. What do you think about the women bosses? Because you’re up tough, nice woman boss. But they can’t charge you with sexism like they can. If it was *** male boss, could they? Um Yes, I think they could. Um Yes, I, I do. Um or, or discrimination in some way. Um But I think uh Wall Street from the research that I was able to do is *** very aggressive world and um people have ***, they’re under *** lot of pressure to uh to make the deal work. And so I think what Catherine does is more instinct than malice. So beautiful weaver starred earlier this year in the film Gorillas in the Mist. And while shooting Working girls, she discovered that for one scene director Mike Nichols wanted her to carry around *** stuffed toy gorilla. If you’re surprised, think of how I felt when I arrived on the set and saw this big gorilla sitting there. And Mike said, well, I see you as Fay Ray all in white, coming back, stepping out of the helicopter, this big gorilla in your arms. And I, it was sort of like I didn’t know what to say and I finally said, you know, it’ll probably work on another level too and he said it, it will. And I said, yeah. But I, I’m glad we did it because I think, you know, it’s always good to make fun of, of your own work. Have they talked about, uh, an aliens, three or anything, or we wiped out the, all those creatures by now? Well, I read in the paper the other day that there was gonna be one but I wasn’t going to be in it and is always true. So, speaking of aliens, three, the little girl in there, you said now lives around Sacramento, Carrie Henn. Yeah, she’s, she, I haven’t seen her since we, um, uh, did the film but, um, I, I miss her and I love to say hello to her and all her family. They were great. And the month long as we’re on the sequel business, what about this? Ghostbusters too? Well, I start tomorrow. You do after all this, it’s like *** soap opera. You know. Have you ever not worked? I mean, uh, it’s one movie after another for you, isn’t it? It just looks that way. I’ve actually taken, uh, since I was married four years ago, I’ve taken *** full year off twice. But then when I have *** movie come out I use, you know, they all seem to come out at once so I really look like I’m everywhere. Um, but I, I have, I haven’t been though that active.
