According to PFF, Robinson has been assessed with four sacks, three QB hits and eight hurries on his 239 pass blocking snaps in 2024.
The acquisition of Robinson, who turned 29 earlier this month, is in response to losing Christian Darrisaw to ACL and MCL injuries suffered Oct. 24 in Minnesota’s loss at the Los Angeles Rams. The slight silver lining with Darrisaw’s injury was the timing, having occurred before this year’s trade deadline (Nov. 5).
Last season, Minnesota acquired quarterback Joshua Dobbs in Week 9 after Kirk Cousins suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 8 at Green Bay. In 2022, the Vikings traded to acquire tight end T.J. Hockenson from Detroit in Week 9 after Irv Smith, Jr., was placed on Injured Reserve.
In each of the past two seasons, the player acquired contributed significantly in Week 9 wins for Minnesota.
Hockenson caught nine passes for 70 yards on nine targets in his 2022 Vikings debut at Washington, and Dobbs came off the bench last year (after Jaren Hall suffered a concussion at Atlanta) and led the game-winning drive against the Falcons.
Robinson is 6-foot-6 with 35 1/2-inch arms, offering what is generally considered prototypical dimensions for a left tackle.
The timing of Robinson’s acquisition occurs right before the Vikings have a three-game swing against AFC South teams, beginning with Indianapolis (4-4) on Sunday Night Football and continuing with trips to Jacksonville (2-6) and Tennessee (1-6).
Last week, the Vikings replaced Darrisaw with veteran David Quessenberry, who has filled in at left and right tackle for Minnesota since 2023.
