Dhanteras 2024: Significance
Dhanteras is one of the most prominent festivals of Hindus which is widely celebrated across the country with great enthusiasm and happiness. On this auspicious day, people worship Lord Kuber, the god of wealth and Lord Dhanvantri, the god of medicines. This is an extremely auspicious day to purchase gold, silver and many other important things. People buy various things from gold to utensils for the good fortune.
As the name suggests, Dhanteras which means, Dhan and Teras so the combination of the words referred as the day is dedicated to wealth and celebrated on 13th day according to the calendar. This day is also celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord Dhanvantri so this day holds a special significance.
Dhanteras 2024: Rituals
People wake up early in the morning and they take bath before starting the festivities. They clean the house completely and then decorate it with flowers, rangoli and lights. During Shubh Muhurat, people go to buy various items such as gold, silver, utensils, electronic items and what not as this is the day for purchasing. At the time of Gaudhooli, they light a four faced diya with four wicks and offer it to the Lord Yama as this day is also celebrated as Yama Deepam. It is believed that Lord Yama removes all the problems and sufferings and also remove the fear of untimely death.
