Thursday marked a new era for Klay Thompson as he suited up for a team other than the Golden State Warriors for the first time in his NBA career.
His debut for the Dallas Mavericks went swimmingly as he and his new co-star Luka Dončić picked up a 120-109 win over Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.
Dončić led the way for Dallas with 28 points, 10 boards and eight assists and Thompson was electric with 22 points on 6-of-10 from deep. His six threes were the most for a Maverick in their debut.
While it’s still early, there appears to be a clear connection between Dončić and Thompson, and that could be a formula for the reigning Western Conference champs to win it all this year.
After the win, fans hyped up the new duo in Dallas.

Get you a team mate that trusts you like L. Doncic trust K. Thompson 😂😂 he didn’t look back! Boom! 3 was in! #MavsvsSpurs
In his final season with the Warriors, Thompson appeared to have hit a plateau in his career. He averaged his fewest points since the 2012-13 season with 17.9 per game and didn’t have the electrifying offensive performances fans had grown accustomed to.
It was just his first game, but Thompson seems to have found new life with a change of scenery and it could be exactly what he needed at this point in his career.
