NEW DELHI: The Hennur police, investigating the tragic building collapse, made their first arrest on Wednesday, while the death toll in the incident rose to 8. The arrested individual is identified as Mohan Reddy, also known as Bhuvan, the son of the building owner and a resident of Malleshwaram.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) D Devaraja said, “We have arrested Bhuvan and subjected him to questioning.Further details will be shared after a thorough interrogation.”
The police have also detained a contractor, Muniyappa, who was responsible for constructing the four floors of the building. “Further necessary actions will be taken as the investigation progresses,” Devaraja added.
The site is registered in the name of Bhuvan’s father, Muniraja Reddy, who has gone incommunicado. Efforts are underway to trace him and locate the current contractor, Elumalai.
The police have identified the deceased as Harman, 26, Tripal (also known as Thirupal), 35, Mohammad Sahil, 19, Sathya Raju, 25, and Shankar. Rescue operations are still ongoing, and forces, including the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, and Fire and Emergency Officials, have saved 18 laborers so far.
Four injured individuals are undergoing treatment at North Bangalore Hospital, one at Hosmat, and another at Aster Hospital.
