Amazon India has expanded its ‘Project Ashray’ logistics initiative to Bengaluru and will set up two rest facilities for delivery drivers in the metro as part of its commitment to improving their wellbeing while working. The business also plans to expand the project to additional locations in the near future.
“The expansion of Project Ashray in Bengaluru is a crucial step in our mission to enhance the experience and well-being of delivery associates across the logistics ecosystem,” said Amazon Logistics’ India vice president Karuna Shankar Pande, India Retailing reported. “By providing dedicated rest points equipped with essential amenities, we aim to create a comfortable environment for all delivery associates.”
The two new Amazon India rest centres in Bengaluru are located in the metro’s Electronic City and Cox Town, India Seatrade reported. Along with seating areas, the rest areas will include mobile charging points, parking spaces, and access to clean water and will be free to use for up to 30 minutes for delivery drivers.
“This initiative underscores the importance of ensuring safe working conditions for all associates in the logistics sector,” said the Government of Karnataka’s additional labour commissioner at the Department of Labour G Manjunath. “We encourage other stakeholders to follow suit in providing essential support to associates, fostering a culture of support and responsibility throughout the industry.”
Amazon India debuted its Project Ashray in Gurugram in August 2024 in partnership with the Udayasa Foundation. In the coming months, the business plans to launch more rest facilities and expand their services.
